Breakfast Club at The Understudy

The Understudy is a theater bookstore and specialty coffee shop catering to Chicago’s vibrant theater community and creative types of all kinds.

The space is beautifully renovated, but as you can see form the photo, is not like our typical breakfast joints. When I was there, the menu had several mini-quiches and sweets and bagels, but no traditional meals like omelettes. There are tables for two, and a great corner window counter for eating and street viewing. I suspect outdoor seating will be going in soon.

Owned and operated by two gay passionate theater artists, The Understudy is dedicated to fostering discovery, community, and collaboration every day. With over 3000 titles on our shelves and a breadth of coffee knowledge behind our bar, there’s always something worth uncovering at The Understudy.
