Join Chicago Prime Timers at Brokeback Mountain The Musical

CHICAGO SHAKESPEARE IS SAYING THIS PERFORMANCE IS NOW SOLD OUT. No additional tickets are available

CPT members are invited to attend the first Sunday matinee performance of the North American premiere of Ashley Robinson’s powerful new stage adaptation of the beloved novella that inspired the Academy Award–winning film.

Sunday, May 31 at 2:00 PM
CPT Group Rate: $56 (includes all taxes and fees)

Regular ticket prices for this performance range from $66 to $88, making this a wonderful savings for our members.

Wyoming, 1963. Against a vast and unforgiving landscape of rural poverty and deeply conservative communities, two young ranch hands — Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist — take seasonal jobs on Brokeback Mountain. What begins as a summer of hard work soon becomes something neither man expected.

Spanning twenty years, this sweeping story of hidden love and longing is brought to life with soulful, original Country Western songs performed live onstage.

On-site parking is available in the Navy Pier garages, with entrance via Illinois Street. Weekend traffic can be heavy, so plan extra time. You may also pre-purchase parking online through the Navy Pier website.

Navy Pier is accessible via CTA bus routes 29 (State), 65 (Grand), and 66 (Chicago). You can also take the Red Line to Grand and transfer to the 65 Grand bus heading east. The #124 Navy Pier Express runs from Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station during peak times.

After the performance, let’s keep the conversation going! We can grab a bite on Navy Pier and share reactions to the show together. Have a favorite spot on Navy Pier? Comment and let us know — suggestions are always appreciated.

And for those heading north, the evening continues at 6:00 PM at Big Chicks in Uptown for our monthly social. Come for one, come for both, or make it a full day with CPT!

Open Space Arts invites you to join us for our next Queer Expression Film Fest screening at FACETS Film Forum, part of our ongoing Gay Movie of the Month series.

In the sunlit coastal community of Maspalomas, a 76-year-old man has built a life grounded in friendship, freedom, and self-expression.

When that world is unexpectedly changed, he finds himself navigating a very different environment—one that brings him face to face with old fears, complicated family relationships, and the question of how to remain true to himself.

Both tender and quietly uplifting, MASPALOMAS offers a moving portrait of resilience, identity, and the enduring importance of living authentically at every stage of life.

These monthly screenings celebrate bold, intimate, and internationally acclaimed queer cinema, bringing powerful stories to the big screen while creating space for conversation, community, and connection. Each program is thoughtfully curated to showcase filmmakers whose work explores identity, desire, and human connection with honesty and artistry.

Screenings take place on the final Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at FACETS Film Forum (1517 West Fullerton). However, because Facets is closed on Memorial Day, we have two screenings in June - on the 1st and 29th!

We often choose a nearby spot to gather for a casual, informal dinner before the screening, so keep your options open and watch for those details as the date approaches.

We hope you’ll join us for an evening of compelling queer storytelling and shared cinematic experience.

Please register on the CPT Website So we know you are coming... but also know that your ticket is not confirmed until you actually purchase one from Open Space Arts at the link below.

Open Space Arts is proud to present SMILEY by Guillem Clua, a sharp, funny, and deeply relatable queer romantic comedy that has captivated audiences around the world.

Originally premiering in Barcelona, SMILEYquickly became a breakout success in Spain, enjoying extended runs in Barcelona and Madrid and earning widespread acclaim. Since its debut, the play has been produced internationally across Europe and Latin America, with productions in Germany, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Chile, Puerto Rico, Peru, and beyond.

While SMILEY has become a global audience favorite, it has had only limited exposure in the United States, with select Spanish-language productions in New York and Miami. Open Space Arts’ production introduces this internationally celebrated work to Chicago audiences, offering a fresh opportunity to experience one of the most engaging contemporary queer love stories to emerge from the European stage.

When ÁLEX leaves a voicemail for his ex, it lands in the inbox of BRUNO—a stranger. What begins as a wrong message turns into an unexpected connection between two very different men. As texts turn into calls, and calls into something more, they navigate attraction, vulnerability, and the complicated reality of modern love.

Funny, fast, and disarmingly honest, SMILEY explores the thrill and risk of connection in a world shaped by screens, expectations, and the fear of being truly seen.  Please register on our site so we know to save you a seat, but your reservation should not be considered confirmed until you purchase a ticket directly from Open Space Arts at this link:

Billy on the Street icon Billy Eichner appears at Old Town School of Folk Music to introduce his audio memoir Billy on Billy.

Purchase your tickets from Old Town School of Folk Music and register on this page so that attendees will be able to find one another.

What kind of child grows up to create Billy on the Street? And who is the real Billy Eichner when he's not playing his iconic character? Find out from Billy himself as he joins us onstage to share his unlikely path to stardom, the artists that inspired him, and the forces that shaped him along the way.

Actor, comedian, writer, and producer Billy Eichner burst onto the scene in 2011 with Billy on the Street , a satirical TV game show he created and starred in, where Billy walked the streets of New York City asking people to compete in pop culture trivia challenges. The show gained a massive fanbase, four Emmy nominations, and much critical acclaim, even experiencing a rebirth on TikTok more than a decade after it first debuted. The show has not only become a dominant force on social media with hundreds of millions of views but remains one of the most beloved and respected comedy acts in the industry. In 2022, Billy co-wrote, starred in and produced the movie Bros, making him the first openly gay man to star in, write, and produce his own major studio film. It was also the first major studio film where all major roles were played by openly LGBTQ+ actors. Today, Billy continues to delight audiences online and on screen, in shows and movies ranging from The Lion King (2019), Parks and Recreation, American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Bob's Burgers, Difficult People, and many more. Most recently, Billy appeared in Honey, Don't!, directed by Ethan Coen, and wrapped production on the upcoming comedy film Judgment Day opposite Will Ferrell, Zac Efron, and Regina Hall.

Gay Men's Book Group-Chicago is a free, open monthly book discussion group welcoming male-identified individuals of all ages who are interested in reading and discussing gay-related literature, both fiction and non-fiction. Books to be discussed are selected by the group and posted on their Facebook page and via their newsletter email.

This month's selection is The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White, which has been adapted as the comedy-drama series Boots on Netflix.

In Greg Cope White's sharp, funny, and unexpectedly moving memoir, he recounts how an insecure New Orleans weakling transforms into a Devil Dog Marine. A coming-of-age story set in the most unlikely place: boot camp.

When Greg's straight best friend Dale tells him he's spending the summer at Marine Corps boot camp on Parris Island, all Greg hears is "summer" and "camp." So, he signs up too. Never mind that he's underweight, out of shape - and gay, which is illegal in the U.S. military at the time.

Yes, it's insanely dangerous for both of them. But as fate would have it, the Few and the Proud turn out to be a bunch of oddballs and eccentrics - and a brotherhood is born. In a world where the landmines are both literal and metaphorical, this book takes a hard - and hilarious - look at masculinity and what it really means to belong.

Greg's chaotic childhood hasn't prepared him for military life. He packs five suitcases for thirteen weeks of training. The U.S. Marines strip him of all of it, shave his head, and put a rifle in his hands. At first, he struggles to keep up - afraid that his secret will be discovered. But as the weeks go by, the desire to survive and earn the title of Marine triumphs over fear.

He learns that everyone enters the Corps feeling different - judged for the color of their skin, their weight, or their past. Some even choose boot camp over jail. This will push every man past his limit and strip away who he thinks he is. What breaks them also binds them. Nobody comes out the same. Something shifts for Greg. For everyone.

Told with disarming honesty and biting wit, The Pink Marine follows Greg and his new brothers as they navigate the brutal system of recruit training. Greg must prove he belongs - and figure out who he really is.

Join us at the Center on Halsted (2nd floor) for the discussion.

Open Space Arts invites you to join us for our next Queer Expression Film Fest screening at FACETS Film Forum, part of our ongoing Gay Movie of the Month series.

BALLATA FEMMENELLA is a moving and deeply textured journey into the largest and oldest transgender community in Europe: the femmenelle of Naples. Rooted in centuries of history and culture, the femmenelle are an integral part of the city’s identity—at once spiritual, social, and political.

Through the voices and lived experiences of its protagonists—including activists, artists, sex workers, and community leaders—the film traces both ancestral traditions and urgent contemporary struggles. It draws us into the intimate streets and hidden corners of Naples, where history, identity, and daily life are inseparable.

Their stories illuminate lives shaped by resilience, devotion, exclusion, and fierce pride, offering a portrait that is at once intimate and expansive.

Far from any folkloric simplification, BALLATA FEMMENELLA stands as both a political and poetic work—a manifesto of denied identities and a declaration of love for a community without which Naples, and perhaps Europe itself, would be immeasurably poorer.

CPT 25th Anniversary Party (Free Event): Second Annual Summer Picnic with Optional Pool Time

Relax in the park, enjoy good food, and cool off at your own pace.

Join Chicago PrimeTimers for our second annual laid-back summer picnic in the park. As part of our anniversary celebrations, this is a free CPT event, with the club covering the cost of the park permit and a catered hot lunch. We’ll have a reserved pavilion with picnic tables, making it easy to sit, eat, and socialize comfortably.

We’ll be returning to the same pavilion we used last year, located in the Irene C. Hernandez Forest Preserve on Foster Avenue. The pavilion is just west of the public pool.

    To help with directions:

    • The park entrance is at Kilbourn Avenue & Foster (north side of the street).

    • The public pool is at Lowell Avenue & Foster (north side of the street).

    • The pavilion is a short walk west of the pool.

    • There is plenty of free parking available in the area.

    • Public transit is also an option: the CTA 92 Foster bus runs along Foster Avenue, with stops nearby.

We’ll start at 10:00 a.m. for early risers who would like to bring or share coffee, tea, juices, or morning sweets. The public pool opens at 11:00 a.m. for anyone who wishes to swim or cool off. Lunch will be served at 2:00 p.m., and we’re welcome to stay in the park until 6:00 p.m., so there’s no rush.

We’ll have bocce ball, plastic horseshoes, and other lawn games available. If you’d like, bring a deck of cards or a set of dominoes and enjoy the shaded tables for a relaxed afternoon of conversation and play.

There are also beautiful mature trees just outside our pavilion, so please bring folding chairs if you’d like to sit in the shade and talk—or bring a book and simply enjoy the summer air. There are also plenty of hiking trails in the park for anyone who’d like to take a walk.

Catering will be provided by the same restaurant that served us last year, featuring a delicious spread including roast beef sandwiches and lemon chicken.

To round out the meal, members are asked to bring sides, salads, and desserts—and please choose items that do not require refrigeration whenever possible. If you are bringing something that needs to stay cold (desserts, drinks, etc.), please bring a cooler with plenty of ice. And as always, bring enough to share!

CPT will supply trash bags, paper plates, plastic utensils, and water. Please bring anything else you’d like to make your day comfortable and fun (chairs, sunscreen, hats, etc.). BYOB is welcome; please no glass containers.

Please note: there is no electricity on site. Public bathrooms are a three-minute walk away from our pavilion.

Swimming and all activities are entirely optional—come for the picnic, the pool, the conversation, or just a peaceful summer afternoon at your own pace.

Please reserve your spot by June 29 so we can plan appropriately for lunch.

Lakeside Pride Wilde Cabaret presents Party Like It's 1999, a nostalgic romp through an era that any PrimeTimer should remember well. This talented ensemble of musicians will regale you with songs celebrating our unity and our freedom to be proud! Doors open at 1:00 pm — grab a drink, make a toast, then meet us in Main Bar for the show at 1:30 pm.

Since 2019 the Lakeside Pride Wilde Cabaret has performed at various cabaret and other musical venues around Chicago, such as Drew's on Halsted, the Drifter, and Sidetrack. The Wilde Cabaret helps to expand Lakeside Pride's musical reach into venues where instrumental groups may not be as easily accommodated and provides performance opportunities to singers and pianists who enjoy Broadway, pop, jazz and folk music. We also partner with our sponsoring ensemble, the Lakeside Pride Jazz Orchestra, and other small jazz ensembles in the organization to provide vocalists when needed.

This month's selection is Lost Prophet: The Life and Times of Bayard Rustin by our very own John D'Emilio, who will join us for the discussion!

One of the most important figures of the American civil rights movement, Bayard Rustin taught Martin Luther King Jr. the methods of Gandhi, spearheaded the 1963 March on Washington, and helped bring the struggle of African Americans to the forefront of a nation's consciousness. But despite his incontrovertibly integral role in the movement, the openly gay Rustin is not the household name that many of his activist contemporaries are. In exploring history's Lost Prophet, acclaimed historian John D'Emilio explains why Rustin's influence was minimized by his peers and why his brilliant strategies were not followed, or were followed by those he never meant to help.

Join us at the Center on Halsted (2nd floor) for a discussion of this compelling chapter of queer American history.
