Join the Greater Chicago Chapter of the Victorian Society in America for a free tour of the historic Marquette Building.  We will meet at the orange Calder "Flamingo" sculpture in Federal Plaza before crossing Adams to arrive at the Marquette Building.

Chicago was the commercial center of the Victorian age.  The Loop had the greatest number of skyscrapers, the most hotel rooms, and more shopping than any other American city. The 1895 Marquette Building by architectural firm Holabird & Roche changed the way skyscrapers looked and operated.  Its lobby—with bronze plaques and Tiffany art glass mosaics—was Chicago's most luxurious.

We will discuss the building's design and technology, as well as how its artwork expresses the Victorian view of Native Americans.
