Q&A explores translations of the Bible and homophobia with film screening.

Queers at Atonement and the Parish Life Guild invite you to a screening of the award-winning documentary, 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture. This is a well-researched, compelling, informing, and healing documentary that follows researchers unearthing how the Revised Standard Version translation committee in 1946 set the stage for generations of homophobia in the church. Make plans to join us Sat., Mar. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Optional discussion to follow. Snacks/light lunch will be served. anyone wanting to learn more about how many bibles of the 20th century mistranslated Greek and Hebrew words then used to condemn LGBTQ+ people.

The film was released in 2022 and has won awards at several film festivals. The film is unrated; but due to subject matter, it’s probably best for those over 13. This event is free to attend, although donations are accepted, and open to anyone interested.

RSVP by Mar. 1 so we can estimate the proper screening fee to pay the filmmakers and amount of snacks to purchase.
