Drag queen and musicologist Dr. Lady J returns after her triumphant Lyric appearances last season to engage in conversations around drag, gender, and opera for Melodramas of the Midwest: A History of Drag Performance in Midwestern America at the Center on Halsted.

Dr. Lady J will be joined by fellow music scholar and drag performer Dr. Sadie Hochman-Ruiz. Together, they’ll explore the intersections of drag and opera, while highlighting Chicago’s often overlooked influence in the drag scene.

Before and after the discussion, enjoy a curated display of LGBTQIA+ artifacts from the Gerber/Hart Library and Archives, with a representative available to answer questions.
